Bloggin'

Summery summer weather is finally starting to become a regular thing now. Holidays are here and I have a hankering for some change. Perhaps a summer job at a milk bar, a new hairstyle or maybe just a new routine. Feels mighty fine to have freedom after a long year of school to do these things. *Freedom by George Michael starts playing in my head* I intend to enjoy the holiday period as much as humanly possible, as next year I'm one of the big kids at school, which means no time for gallivanting. Grade eleven - my god. Scary and exciting.

I'm not quite sure what to do with my new found freedom, but I think I'll start with painting my nails, watching some movies, getting some sun, playing music rather loud and dancing to it and playing piano. School always leaves me regretting the time each week I didn't spend playing piano. I realise I don't have plans to go to cool music festivals or to stay with some crazy aunt that lives in some exotic beachy place with gorgeous boys in abundance, if only, but I'm trying not to be too boring. I need to get out of my comfort zone, experience some different things (not too different), instead of resorting to my usual walk the dog, watch the boat that rocked etc. I write this as I am sitting on my couch with my dog next to me, watching the boat that rocked while the sun is shining invitingly outside. Oops. I will also do heaps of blogging, jewellery making and other craft things for the shops, so keep an eye out for last minute Christmas presents.

My Friends

Ever since I stepped figuratively into this world, I have been surrounded by the best kind of friends, in our little home. I have never known a moment when my family hasn't owned at least one animal. Many friends have come and gone and I have loved each one for a unique reason.

The family when I came into it, consisted of Mum, Dad, my two brothers, the gorgeous black

Corgi x Kelpie called Poppy, a grumpy 'vomit' coloured FEMALE cat called Tom and the four or five bantam hens we had back then.

Poppy. (sorry this picture is mainly of me, couldn't find any others)

Tom.

Chooks.

Two years later Pheobe, a snuggly black kitten, came along. She was my brother's little snuggly baby and it stayed that way. But, though her loyalty is with Andrew, she starts to purr lovingly as soon as you lay a hand on her velvet coat. She has unconditional love, however it can be painful to snuggle with her as she doesn't seem to realise claws hurt when suck into you.

Pheobe.

I may forget a few fish or two, or a budgie here and there but it was a long time ago, so forgive me for forgetting the exact timing of every little creatures arrival :)

The next pet I can remember getting was my pet rabbit, Thumper. I don't remember much about Thumper except he was white with black sploges, fluffy and pretty cute. I do remember when he bit my finger thinking it was a carrot :O

After that I think the next pet I got was a sweet little brown mouse, called Millie, when I was 7. She was the sweetest little thing and I know many of you will be cringing right about now, but I loved perching her on my shoulder and letting her nestle into the side of my neck. A little ball of soft warmth.

When Millie passed, after Tom the cat got a little too close for comfort, I was at school and Mum was left with a dilemma: buy another mouse to replace Millie, or simply tell me the hard truth of her terrible misfortune? Instead she did neither. She went to the pet shop near by and instead of looking through the mice for a Millie look-a-like, a tiny fluffy white Birman kitten caught her eye. (not literally of course) She asked about the little fluff ball and was told a woman was coming back for her later on, but if she didn't turn up the kitten was all ours. For some unknown reason she never came back to collect the kitten and so the next member of the Marshall family came along. Maggie, the luscious, gorgeous, blue-eyed, soft, Birman kitten. She was small enough to sit on one of my hands, she was perfect.

That is she was perfect apart from her bad temper that we discovered later on. Who would've thought such a beautiful, snuggly looking cat could be such a b**** when she felt like it! Still I love her regal manner and she has never lost her kitten-like mind, playing games by herself in a garden full of adventures.

When Maggie was about a year old she somehow (I won't go into details) fell pregnant! After not long we
had four tiny wee kittens stumbling around in a basket in my bedroom. Such an experience I will never forget. Every child should have kittens, it's the most amazing, wonderful and gorgeous thing to happen.

(Right to left)Shackleton, Badger, Ginge and Pud. Don't ask, we were creative with the names.
Once they were old enough to be away from their mum two of them went to live with my cousins and we kept two for ourselves, Badger and Shackleton.

Ah such cuties! I do wish that we could have kept Pud and Ginge also, but seven cats at one time? People would have thought we were just a little eccentric. Pud did end up coming back home for a few months while my cousins were on the mainland. It was lovely to see her again, she was the most cuddly of the four.

Now Badge and Shack are all grown up just like their mum, but we still call them the kittens.

Just after the kittens came a little brown duckling called Charlie. How were we to know she was a lady, until she started laying eggs. I was promised that I could have a duckling years before this, so she was a nice little addition to the family.

Next was a whole new type of animal, two
Sheltie guinea pigs. Peppy and Gingie. The cutest, most interesting creatures I've ever owned.

I had wanted to get a puppy from about grade eight on wards, after Poppy died when I was in grade six. Finally, this year, after doing some work experience at the RSPCA I returned home with a little dog called Frankie. The sweet little face of this dog made my Dad cave, saying yes to getting her without so much as a 'Oh dogs are too much work!'. The very next day after spotting her in the kennels, she was mine..ours I mean :P I still can't believe my luck. Like a little baby she sleeps on my bed, waits for me to come home, and follow me everywhere. She gives out so much love to the whole family, so no one can resist her charm. I love her, she's just what we needed. As I am writing this she is coiled up like a cat in a ball on my lap. It's really quite uncomfortable having the laptop on the arm of the couch, but I don't have the heart to push her off :3

So at the end of all that you're probably thinking 'Geepers! So many pets!' I realise how very lucky I am to have had them all. I don't think I could live without at least one cuddly cat.
