a good friday at hollybank

Recovering from an 80km walk in support for Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania, my Dad decided Good Friday (one day after completing the walk) would be the perfect time to go mountain biking at Hollybank. I opted out of mountain biking, leaving it for my brother, Andrew, and Dad who were feeling sufficiently more able than me. After eating chicken sandwiches, ginger snaps and warming up with a nice cup of tea, Mum, Frankie and I set out on a (very) slow paced wander along the leafy paths of Hollybank.

I feel incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful place in which to frolic. It is one of the many fantastic parks Tasmania has outside of the World Heritage area. It just goes to show that tourism can be successfully incorporated into nature without having to delve into the (sort of) untouched Wilderness we are so lucky to hold. 'Hollybank Tree Tops Adventures' is an example of a tourist attraction which has been put in place with sensitivity and taste. The entire reserve is very accessible to the public and such a gorgeous location for picnics, as well as one of the best places to take your mountain bike and get that popular adrenalin rush everyone talks about. It is great, in Tasmania, that we have a variety of outdoor experiences on offer - the family friendly parks and tourism hot spots, and the pristine Wilderness which is there for you to experience from the comfort of your tent, surrounded by nature and without distractions. Tourism isn't always handled so tastefully as it is at Hollybank, which is why the only way to keep Tasmanian Wilderness in it's breathtaking state is to keep tourism out of it.

Anyway, I had a lovely time stopping every five seconds to capture the beauty of Hollybank Reserve in Autumn - the colours and the light danced for my eyes and I couldn't help myself.  So here are a selection out of more than 200 photos!

Spot the Robin Red Breast in the next few....I need to get a bigger zoom.
